A good consultation should never begin with “what treatment do you want?” It should begin with “tell me about your skin.” That is the whole idea behind the Skin Health Assessment, and it is where every treatment at our clinic begins.
Why we do not start with a treatment
Most people arrive with a concern, not a treatment in mind — dark circles, dullness, pigmentation, lines that seem to have appeared overnight. The same concern can have very different causes. Dark circles, for example, can be pigmentation, volume loss or thin skin, and each needs a completely different approach. Recommending a treatment before understanding the cause is how people end up spending money on the wrong thing.
What happens during the appointment
- A conversation first. What bothers you, how long it has been there, what you have already tried, and what you would like to change.
- Your medical history. Medications, allergies, pregnancy, previous treatments and anything else that affects what is safe for you.
- A proper look at your skin. Texture, hydration, pigmentation, congestion and how your skin behaves in different light.
- An honest explanation. What is actually happening, in plain language.
- A written plan. A sequence over months that you can take away and think about. Sometimes the answer is skincare, and sometimes it is nothing at all.
How to prepare
Come with clean skin if you can, or be happy for us to remove makeup. Bring a list of the products you use and any medication you take. Photographs of your skin at its best and worst can be surprisingly helpful too.
Will I be pressured to book?
No. We would rather do less and be asked back. You are welcome to go home, think about your plan and come back when it feels right.
Not sure where to start? Book a Skin Health Assessment and we will look properly at your skin, explain what is happening and write you a plan — whether or not you ever book a treatment.
